Q. What are charter schools?
A. Charter schools extend the privilege of educational choice to families, providing academic options for students in pursuit of their ideal learning experience. Charter schools are open to all children, free of charge, who are eligible to attend traditional public schools in the state of Michigan. Governed by a local Board of Directors, charter schools must meet and often exceed the educational standards of both its Authorizer and the State Board of Education. The same laws and academic expectations required of all public schools within the state of Michigan also govern charter schools.
Q. How are charter schools governed?
A. Charter schools are governed by a Board of Directors that are appointed by the Academy’s Authorizer. The registered bylaws of the Board of Directors outline both the roles and responsibilities of the appointed School Board. Some Boards choose to employ an educational service provider to provide assistance with the executive leadership and management services for the school. Others choose to be self-managed, doing so under the leadership of both the School Board and the Academy Director.
Q. What are the benefits of sending my child to a charter school?
A. Children attending charter schools benefit greatly from smaller class sizes, high academic standards, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Many charter schools are formed through a local founding group that is passionate about providing alternative educational choices to area children. Enthusiasm for a charter school becomes contagious, as board members, staff, families and community members are drawn to the Academy because their interests coincide with the school’s educational program and theme.
When it comes to student learning, charter schools desire to be partners with parents and guardians. As parents often transport their children to and from a charter school, there is a greater opportunity for active communication with faculty and staff, which furthers the home-school connection. Charter school operators recognize that parents have made an educated choice in choosing to send their child to the school, and the knowledge of this weighty decision motivates the staff, Headmaster, School Board and management company to work hard to not only meet, but to exceed, parents’ academic expectations.
Q. Why should I send my child to a charter school managed by Choice Schools Associates?
A. Choice Schools Associates (CSA) works diligently to carry out its mission to empower every child with knowledge, skills, character, and a strong work ethic, so that each one is able to achieve the American Dream. CSA believes that every child is capable of accelerated learning and achieving excellence in their own academic endeavor, and that by providing children the choice of a superior educational experience they will be well prepared for active citizenship within their own communities. CSA works closely with the contracted School Board and staff to ensure that the Academy’s goals and vision are carried out to the fullest extent possible.
In addition, every state-certified, highly qualified instructor that CSA employs receives intensive training on the correlation between differentiated instruction and the importance of holding oneself accountable for the academic success of students under their care. The goal of achieving and maintaining parental satisfaction requires that each CSA employee take the education and safety of their students to heart, and their strong partnerships with parents and guardians help to ensure student success.
