Dove Academy of Detroit is celebrating Black History Month this year with commemorations ranging from Black History showcases to daily announcements and art exhibits! This month is a yearly celebration recognizing African Americans’ important role in the history of this nation, and we know that our students are taking important lessons away from what we’ve prepared.

The first thing we want to highlight this month is our daily announcements from our students, with our scholars giving daily announcements and sharing accomplishments from African Americans every morning. Students from every grade level took their turn giving the daily announcements and sharing facts about African American ingenuity over the PA system.

Another fantastic opportunity for our students to celebrate Black History Month this February was Ms. Arnold’s second grade Black History Museum. This project saw our second grade students all pick a historical figure in African-American history, gather information on what makes them historically relevant, and create a poster board showcasing their accomplishments. Watching our young scholars present on figures that they were interested in was such a joy!

This month was an incredible celebration of African-American history at Dove Academy of Detroit, and we are so grateful for every member of our community who helped to commemorate this important time. As we prepare for the final-stretch of the school year we will continue to look back on this February fondly, and are excited to finish strong. To see what other celebrations we have in store this year, be sure to follow us on social media and our blog to stay up-to-date.
