Hear from our Principal

Dear Dove Academy of Detroit Families,

I am excited to welcome you to the 2026-27 school year! I am proud to be starting my 5th year as principal at Dove Academy. As a native Detroiter who grew up just 2 blocks over from the school, it is personal to me that our scholars show out as Detroit’s best and brightest. Each year that I have been principal, it has been my goal to make sure that Dove’s 8th grade graduates get into the best high schools in the area. In the 25-26 school year, 40% of Dove’s 8th graders were accepted to application schools, and all students had a plan for success in their educational journey. We also have an amazing authorizer, Oakland University, who host scholars on campus to help them aspire to college and who provide scholarships to students who attended their authorized academies.

At #DoveNation, we believe that our scholars can be competitive with the most talented students in the country, and we treat them knowing that that talent is already there. We have high expectations for character and academics in a family-like community that nurtures growing children, celebrating their accomplishments and encouraging them to do more.

We have close partnerships with Detroit’s PAL program and offer many opportunities for athletics; we have after school programs that tap into scholars’ creative selves; we provide tutoring and an enriching summer school program. We love our parents! Monthly we have events for parents to learn, socialize, and have fun with their children. We also have an extensive group of dads, our “WatchDogs” who come to school regularly to provide mentoring and support to all students.

As a product of Detroit schools, and a parent who raised two children and got them to and through college, I know what it is like to want more and expect more from your child’s school. At Dove Academy of Detroit, you can count on us to care for your child like our own. I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school, August 24, and to sharing this journey with you.
