Dove Academy of Detroit Has Been Reauthorized by Oakland University

In 1994, Governor John Engler and other state leaders enacted a charter school law that allowed the first charter school in Michigan to open. Dove Academy’s first, and only authorizer, Oakland University, enables our public school to receive state funding and to act as a charter. In 1997, Oakland University saw that Dove Academy of Detroit’s doors were open to the Detroit community, and the rest is history.

25 years later, Oakland University has renewed our school, meaning they will continue to authorize Dove Academy of Detroit for an additional 5 years. As the authorizer of our school, we value Oakland University for their oversight and dedication to the larger Metro Detroit community.

Their primary objectives reflect our mission and goals, ensuring that we can educate a diverse body of students, maintain quality programs, and increase community collaboration. Our school offers a unique education to our community, and with the continued support from our friends at Oakland University, we will continue to offer that to our families for years to come.
