Dove Academy Receives Oakland University School Improvement Award

At Dove Academy, the partnership between our authorizer and school community goes beyond we value the partnership between our authorizer and school community. In 1997, Oakland University was granted the opportunity to authorize charter schools in Wayne and Macomb counties, and that same year, Dove Academy of Detroit was born.

In the last 24 years, Oakland University has helped our school become the prosperous and innovative school that it is today. On top of providing us with the resources needed to fulfill our mission, they have continuously awarded our school with their School Improvement Award.

This amazing grant helps us to pursue new ways to teach and provide for our students. The funds are continuously invested in many school needs, all of which open the door for more effective education. This year, we used the award to start a writing program for grades K-8 called the Writing Step-Up Program aimed at increasing student success in a variety of writing tasks. Those funds also went toward technology for teachers to use as instructional tools, and for kindergartners to use towards testing. Additional funds were allocated for new curriculum, books, and materials for a new Spanish class.

“Oakland University truly invests in the mission and vision of Dove Academy, and their grants help us further our efforts in developing innovative ways to educate our scholars. Our teachers, staff and students are grateful to feel supported in their creativity,” Ms. Caine, Principal of Dove Academy shares.

At Dove Academy, we pride ourselves on our successes and love to celebrate school achievements. Each year we continue to be acknowledged for our excellent student learning programs and the safe, family-like community we have built. As the holiday season is upon us, we give thanks to our families, our staff, and our friends at Oakland University.
